Learning Intention (WALT)

Rehearse recognition of equivalent fractions.
Write simplest fractions using multiplication grid.

Lesson

State and show learning objectives. Rehearse and recap fractions from previous lessons. Use online fraction chart to rehearse equivalent fractions.

Give each pupil strip of sweets to cut into fractions displayed on postit notes, demonstrate using a visualiser. In pairs make equivalent fractions.

Display interactive multiplication grid, shade ½ (easiest). Go along row, point to numerator/denominator. Emphasis simplest fractions on left. Use music, children find equivalent fractions. Suppose we don’t have multiplication grid…..8/12 = 2/3 (both numerator and denominator divide by 4. Repeat 30/36, what table goes into both of these?
